Following Crystal Palace’s 1-0 loss to Liverpool and the denial of a penalty to defender Marc Guehi, the Premier League has released an official statement.
Diogo Jota scored the winning goal for the visitors, but a key talking point from the game came when Guehi was denied a penalty after appearing to be fouled in the box by Virgil van Dijk, and the Premier League have now officially responded to the incident.
Taking to social media platform X shortly after the decision was made, the Premier League Match Centre account wrote:
“The referee’s call of no penalty for the challenge by van Dijk on Guehi is checked and confirmed by VAR – deeming that the challenge was not sustained holding and had no impact on the play.”
Supporters of Crystal Palace are undoubtedly unhappy with this choice.
